For managing light weight access points in large quantities Controller is been used with Lightweight Access Point Protocol (LWAPP). A Wifi controller is a device which provides centralized WiFi management device to manage all the access points in a particular area.
A controller is beneficial for large networks.
- Centralized Authentication: Central authentication mechanism is provided through user id and password. Individual MAC addresses tables and updating has been removed.
- Load Balancing: If number of user’s increases at one access point, it automatically gets shifted to neighboring access points.
- Interference Mitigation: To control the loss of packets due to interference adjacent access points are maintained.
